On October 19, 2007, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad was commonly known as NIPER-Hyderabad was started its functioning by offering courses 3 disciplines via Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Analysis.

The institute conferred and declared the status of Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Govt. of India with proclaimed objectives of becoming Centre of Excellence for advanced research in pharmaceutical sciences on June 26, 1998.

In 1998, NIPER-Mohali was the first institute established under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals (DOP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the Govt. of India.

Later, six new NIPER's across the country including NIPER-Hyderabad was established by the Department of Pharmaceuticals. The institute started its functioning from the premises of erstwhile R&D Centre of IDPL, Balanagar, Hyderabad. Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad a premier CSIR Research Laboratory, is the Mentor Institute for NIPER-Hyderabad.

Based on good co-educational academic excellence, the institute started four new courses i.e. Pharmaceutics in 2009, M.B.A (Pharm.) in 2011 and Regulatory Toxicology and M.Tech - Process Chemistry in 2013.

From the academic year 2011-12, a Ph.D. course in four disciplines i.e. Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmaceutics were started.

NIPER-Hyderabad is one of the best institutes with Centre of Excellence for Advanced Studies and Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The main objective of this institute is to develop of human resources for the ever-growing Indian Pharmaceutical Industry. NIPER-Hyderabad is on the forefront in placement activities with almost 80% students getting placed in various pharma companies every year.

Admissions for aspirants here done through a JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) organized and conducted by NIPER-Mohali and also as per the norms & conditions of this institute.
