Murgaon Education Society (M.E.S.) College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar, Goa was established 16th June 1972. It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is affiliated to Goa University, North Goa and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 26th April & 12(B) on 1st May 1988 under Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade on 20th September 2006.

Murgaon Education Society was established in 1971 with the noble goal of providing educational facilities at Vasco-da-Gama and in other parts of Mormugao Taluka by developing professional skills among its students, and by providing a select core of leadership qualities.

The college has become, over the years, a positive force for national and global development. The first educational institution set up by the Murgaon Education Society was the College of Arts and Commerce, which was established at Vasco-da-Gama in 1972.

This was also the first composite Arts and Commerce College in the State of Goa to be affiliated with the University of Mumbai, Mumbai and then to the Goa University, North Goa.

The college seeks to bring about an all-round integrated development of the intellectual, moral and physical faculties of its students so that they can become self-reliant, play a positive role in the nation building and provide leadership to the society in various walks of life. The pursuit of excellence is the motto of the college. The college was shifted to its present Zuarinagar Campus in June 1985.

In recognition of the high standards of education and an all round excellence attained by it, the college has been selected by the University Grants Commission for introducing vocational courses at the B.A.

and B.Com degree level and by the Ford Foundation, U.S.A. for implementing its Campus Diversity Initiative Programmes.

Further, the UGC has selected the institution to introduce the B.Com in "Shipping Management" course under its innovative program. Also, the UGC has chosen the college to introduce a career oriented course entitled, "Management of NGO’s".

M.E.S has established a wide network of academicians from several colleges and universities, N.G.Os, corporate bodies etc to fulfill its educational endeavors.

• The M.E.S. mission is to equip the youth in and around Murgaon with an up- to-date knowledge, marketable skills, and high ethical values enabling them to participate effectively in the Nation building process and achieving fullest development of their potential, creative abilities, and leadership qualities

Goals:

• To provide an easy access to higher education to eligible young men and women from Murgaon taluka and the surrounding areas.
• To train its students most effectively in the B.A, B.Com, B.B.A. B.C. A. and B. Com (Shipping Management), degree courses of the Goa University, North Goa and the new courses
• To provides its student with the best possible curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular programs
• To focus on the value based and career oriented education so as to foster among the student's leadership qualities which will enable them to eventually assume positions of responsibility
• To inculcate among the students and the staff a deep sense of patriotism, urging them to work for strengthening the unity, integrity, and solidarity of India while at the same time celebrating its many splendors diversity
• To encourage and assist the faculty in improving academic qualification and professional competence
• To collaborate with other educational, social and cultural intuitions in India and abroad to fulfills it's avowed goals
