Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women (Autonomous), Bengaluru Urban was established on 1st August 1972 by K.N.V. Sastri.

It is one of the premier women's' colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 1st February 1989 & 12(B) on 23rd August 1994 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.25 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 15th September 2016.

The aim of the college provides a vibrant academic environment and is characterized by cultural and social diversity. Education for character formation is the goal of the institution with a focus on the core values of excellence, integrity, responsiveness, teamwork, and inclusivity.

It is a co-educational private college, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college is located strategically in the vicinity of national institutes of repute such as Indian Institute of Science, Institute of Wood Science & Technology, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Raman Research Institute and Central Power Research Institute.

This college is recognized & conferred the status as “ College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)” by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 18th March 2010 in CPE Phase I and also on 7th February 2014 in CPE Phase II respectively.

The college was also selected to start Community College from the academic year 2011.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.

The college has been received 4th, 5th and 7th ranks for the best Science, Arts and Commerce college in the Bengaluru by Neilsen Survey. Also remain in the list of Top 50 Colleges in India and Top 10 in Bangalore city ranked by India Today.

The institution offers 17 UG programs in the Science, Commerce, Arts, Management, Computer Science and Biotechnology streams, PG programs in Kannada language, Commerce, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry.

The institution also offers UGC sponsored as well as self-financed certificate and diploma courses for students to pursue with the mainstream programs.

The Research Centre of the institution is recognized by Bangalore University to offer Ph.D. programs in Biotechnology, Commerce and Kannada language. In the last four years, seven new programs have been initiated in order to enable students with more options in higher education. The enrichment courses offered by the institution provide opportunities for acquiring additional skills.
