Markanda National College, Shahabad Markanda was established in 1971 by M.N. College Educational Society to cater to the educational needs of this predominantly rural area.

The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (in 1st Cycle) on 21st March 2003.

The establishment of this college proved to be a boon for this area. Ever since its inception, the college has not looked back and made significant strides, has developed into a multi-faculty institution, imparting instructions in English at Post-graduate level and in Arts, Science, and Commerce stream at Under-graduate level.

The college also runs successfully two job-oriented add-on-courses (i) Retail Management and (ii) Information and Computer Technology.

The college is proud of its imposing infrastructure and an environment conducive to learning. It has a spacious building surrounded by lush green lawns and playground.

At present, the college has 1000 students on its rolls. Besides traditional subject, the faculty is available for teaching Marketing as the Vocational subject.

Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
