The late Most Rev. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the late Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasius, late Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan and the late Mr. K.K Kuruvilla and many others contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of this institution. The present Manager of the College is Most. Rev. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan.

From a small beginning with 250 students and 12 teachers, the college has grown into a premier educational institution with over 1500 students on the rolls, over 80 members on the teaching staff and about 45 members on the non-teaching staff. The college presently offers 12 under graduate and 11 post graduate programmes and several non-formal courses. The College also has seven bonafide research departments offering full time research facility leading to Ph.D.

The College, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1998, the first college to do so in Kerala, attained the unique distinction on being the first re-accredited college with A-Grade in Mahatma Gandhi University. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and comes under the 2(f) & 12(b) category of the University Grants Commission.

Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It falls within the administrative jurisdiction of the Deputy Director of Collegiate Education, Kottayam and comes under the 2(f) & 12(b) category of the University Grants Commission.

The College accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1998 – the first college to do so in Kerala, also attained the unique distinction of being the first re-accredited College in the Mahatma Gandhi University with ‘A’ Grade in 2005 and again in 2012.

The College is also a member of The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)  since 2015. The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the United Nations through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility.
