Maharajah's Post-Graduate College, Vizianagaram, popularly known as M.R. College, which was established in 1879, introduced PG Courses in November 1987.

It is affiliated with Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. In the First year, only three departments - the Department of Commerce, the Department of Economics and the Department of History - occupied three small rooms in M.R. College for UG with 5 teaching faculty and 87 Students.
 
Subsequently in 1995 M.R. College for P.G Courses, as it was then called, shifted to the present campus. Since then the present M.R P.G College has grown steadily and healthily into a 14-department campus with a built-up area of 83,500 sq. ft. All the rooms are adorned either with equipment or with furniture. On any working day, the college is vibrant with nearly 1000 students, 44 Non-Teaching staff, and 64 teaching faculty.

Maharajah’s Post-Graduate College, Phool Baugh, Vizianagaram, has been a constituent of MANSAS (Maharajah Alak Narayan Society of Arts & Science) Trust.

The MANSAS Trust was established on 12-11-1958 by Dr. P.V.G.Raju, Raja Sahib of Vizianagaram, who donated a major extent of his landed property for the cause of education. The educational institutions established by MANSAS Trust are well known for imparting value based quality education, at an affordable price.

After the demise of the beloved Raja Sahib Dr.P.V.G.Raju,  in November 1995, his two illustrious sons, Dr. Anand Gajapathi Raju and Sri Ashok Gajapathi Raju, took charge of MANSAS Trust as Chairman and Vice Chairman.

They started establishing new educational institutions, offering postgraduate courses in humanities, basic and applied sciences, management studies, pharmaceutical sciences. They also established one of the best engineering colleges in the coastal Andhra Pradesh (in Vizianagaram.).

The vision of Dr. P.V.G.Raju, became a reality and took a beautiful shape in Phool Baugh area, in the name of the M.R.P.G.College, under the dynamic leadership of Prof.K.Hanumantha Rao, Director and has acquired exuberant growth from strength to strength and emerged as one of the top ranking affiliated Post Graduate Colleges of Andhra Pradesh, as is acclaimed by one and all. As a recognition of its excellence, the NAAC committee, which visited in December 2007, accredited the institution with ‘A’ Grade.
