M.P.Mahavidyalaya(MPM), Erakana was established in 1982.

Its affiliated to Utkal University.

The college is maintaining a major role in spreading higher education and all-round development in this rural area. The college was set up with an objective of becoming a centre of excellence by imparting value-based education.

Besides being conveniently located, the excellent infrastructure of the campus generates an ideal ambiance for studies. The college offers undergraduate courses in the discipline of arts. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities.

The college is affiliated to Utkal University, established in 1943. This is the oldest university in Orissa and the seventeenth oldest university in India. The University was started under the Utkal University Act, 1943.

It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University that has produced some of the best brains in Orissa. There are at present twenty-six Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science and others.

It has the largest space amongst all universities in Bhubaneswar and is also the most centrally located one. It has one of the highest numbers of educational departments in India and is also the state largest in this respect.

The University has now the jurisdiction over 9 districts, viz, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri.
