Lucknow Christian College was also known as Lucknow Christian Degree College was established in 1862 as a tiny school in the Husainabad area of the old city of Lucknow. Husainabad School House was established by Rev. J. H. Messmore, a pioneer educationist missionary in Lucknow.

Later, as it was shifted to Inayat Bagh, now a part of a college campus, and was raised to the level of high school in 1882.

The college, in fact, is older than the University of Lucknow. Till 1921, the degree classes, which began in 1889, were affiliated to the University of Calcutta, Kolkata. After University of Lucknow, Lucknow came into existence in 1922, the courses were transferred and affiliated to it.

It was recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (in 1st Cycle) on September 16, 2004.

It is an institute run by N.G.O. named Lucknow Christian College Society. It has undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science and postgraduate courses in Chemistry, & English.

The college was also recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur to offer two years of professional course in B.P.Ed.

The main aim of the college is to provide quality education to the youth, especially the Christan youth, so as to enable them to make a positive contribution to Nation-building.

UG courses are under Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS). Therefore, the students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.
