Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior was established in 1957.

by the Ministry of Education & Culture, Government of India.

It is an autonomous body under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and is an ISO 9001:2008 certified and NAAC Accredited University.

The university of its unique recognition status and character and to facilitate its further growth, the college was conferred the status of an Autonomous College of Jiwaji University, Gwalior.

The university in further recognition of the unique educational services rendered by the institute in the field of Physical Education, Sports and Research, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development conferred the status of a Deemed to be University.

The main purpose of establishing the university was to upgrade the status of Physical Education by producing quality teachers and leaders through graduate and post-graduate courses.

The objectives of the university are to prepare highly qualified teachers and leaders in the field of physical education and sports, to encourage and produce scientific contemporary literature in the field of physical education and sports and to provide professional and academic leadership to other institutions in the field of Physical Education.
