About L.D. Arts College

L.D. Arts College, Ahmedabad was established in June 1937 under the management of Ahmedabad Education Society with the efforts of The Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri G.V.Mavlankar and the renowned Industrialist and Philanthropist, Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai, completes 78 years of unstinting contribution to education.

The college is affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.08 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) in 2015.

The college was set up in 1937, over a decade before Independence, with a view to inculcate the spirit of Indian culture and academics in students at a time when receiving a British Education was stressed upon.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel along with Ganesh Mavlankar and KasturbhaiLalbhai played a key role in setting up L.D. Arts as one of the first Grants-in-Aid colleges in the city. L. D. Arts manages one of the greenest campuses. Founded by Sheth Shri KasturbhaiLalbhai and named after his father LalbhaiDalpatbhai, the college has been rendering yeoman service for almost six decades.

It offers seven postgraduate subjects. Besides this, the college also houses the largest IGNOU centre in the city. “From the very start, the college has been a centre where education, culture, discipline and safety go together.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Directorate of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi for Degree Courses, PG Courses & Certificate Courses. They are:

Certificate Courses: CYP, CDM, CES,  CHR, CFM, CIG, CIC, CLD, CNCC, CCP, CRD, CIS CDWL, CPLT, etc.

  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results

  • A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed

  • State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
  • The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 15th June 2007 to assure the quality of the college and publishes college magazine "ANJALI" every year
  • The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The college has got a large playground, Basket Ball court and facilities and equipment for different sports like Cricket, football, Volleyball, Hockey, badminton, Table tennis and so on
  • State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment
  • For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
