About Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies

Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, Mysuru was established on 8th December 1966.

It is one of the premier constituent institutions established under University of Mysore, Mysuru to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with self - University of Mysore, Mysuru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The Institute of Kannada Studies is the first institute established in the University of Mysore aiming to carry out all Kannada related projects under one roof.

On the eve of golden jubilee celebration of the University on 8th Dec 1966, former Vice Chancellor K.L. Srimali inaugurated this Institute. Which was renamed in the honor of national poet Kuvempu as Kuvempu Institute of Kanada studies in the year 1994.

The Institute has celebrated the Golden Jubilee on completing the 50th year on 8th Dec 2016.

The university scheme provides for a fuller and core continuous course of teaching not only in Kannada but also in the other vernaculars of Southern India which are spoken in Mysore”.

The Institute has published more than seven hundred books on different subjects, many of which are directly or indirectly related to indigenous knowledge, culture, and language.

The prestigious volumes of general Encyclopaedia, Subject Encyclopaedia and the Volumes of Epigraphia Carnatica, a number of textbooks and edited manuscripts and their publications are the real credit to the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies.

At present, the institute offers postgraduate courses with unique specializations in Arts, Post Graduate, Master of Philosophy streams and Post Graduate streams. It also offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses.

  • The Institute has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
  • The Institute runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The Institute has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies.
  • The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places.
  • The Institute has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
  • A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
  • State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject.
  • To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution.
  • The Institute also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology.
  • The Institute consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
