krishna Menon Memorial Govt. Women's College, Kannur was named after the illustrious son of our country Sri. V.K Krishna Menon, the former Defence Minister of India was established on 16th August 1975 and managed by Cannanore Women’s Education and Welfare Society (R).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Kannur University, Kannur formerly affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.03 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) in 5th May 2014.

The aim of the college was committed to serve the economically weaker and the less privileged sections of the society.

It is a womens government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Kannur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Initially, the college functioned in a high school building at Payyambalam. Later the college took over 15 acres of land granted by the Government of Kerala in the Jail compound at Pallikkunnu.

In 1980, the college was upgraded, thanks to the relentless efforts and dedication of the College Vikasana Samithi. On 14th September1980, Degree Classes were inaugurated by Sri. Baby John, the Hon’ble Minister for Education.

The college was shifted from its temporary abode at Payyambalam to the present campus during 1982-83. Initially, the Jail Superintendent’s Bungalow was remodeled to give room for the degree classes and the college office.

The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the Kannur University, Kannur.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses and offers two years of postgraduate course in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under the Kannur University, Kannur.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Kannur University, Kannur, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
