Kirori Mal College was established on February 1, 1954. The college runs courses under the University Delhi, New Delhi and it was recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on March 3, 1956, under Act, 1956.

On February 1, 1954, Kirori Mal College was established to impart & provide higher education in the field of Arts, Science, and Commerce for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

In 1951, the college first came into existence as Nirmala College, started by American Jesuits in an evacuee building in Qutab Road, Old Delhi. Later, in 1954 the college was renamed and it is one of the constituent co-educational colleges of University of Delhi.

The college runs courses under the University Delhi, New Delhi and it was recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on March 3, 1956, under Act, 1956.

It was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.54 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

Founded after country’s independence, the college is one of the oldest institutions of the University of Delhi and is located in the University Enclave, the heart of the city.

In 1982, when the University of Delhi took over management of the college from privately managed college to a full-fledged university maintained institution to do away with the administrative problem of dual governance.

The college is fully maintained and governed by University of Delhi and encourages a quest for knowledge that is rooted in an ethical understanding of the world that they inhabit and this enthusiasm for learning along with a desire to evolve into socially responsible beings is reflected not only in the academic atmosphere but also visible in the field of extra-curricular activities.

At present, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce stream with various specializations under the affiliating university.

For few UG courses are under Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) and PG courses are under the Credit and Semester System (CSS) of the affiliating university. Therefore, the students should have to choose one honour (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.

Instill the ethos of national pride and selfless service with the motto: 'Not Me But You' through National Cadet Crops (NCC) and National Social Service (NSS-KMC) Units.

Affordable and Quawlity education to all, accomplised through the Fee Waiver Committee for students under stressed circumstances and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) holding training and development programs for the faculty.

To foster composite culture of coexistence for students through cultural societies such as the Players (theatre), MUSOC (music), FAPS (Fine Arts and Photography) Mortage (Film), Sensation (Dance) and Spic Macay.

To train yound minds to develop critical thinking to realize their intellectual potential, equip them with the latest technological and learning resources, and prepare them to excel within a rapidly evolving digital world.

The ecure affirmative action in favour of the underrprivileged social groups both in students' intake and teachers' recruitment through Liasion officers for the SC/ST, OBC and EWS Community and the Nodal Officers for students from North-East States, Persons with Disability (PWD) Category and Public Grievances, Internal Complaints Committe (ICC), Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), and the Women's Development Cell (WDC) ensure a just and fair place to work for all.
