Karve Institute of Social Service, Karvenagar (Dist. Pune) was established on 9th November 1963 and founded by social reformer Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.29 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 19th February 2016.

The Institute has established its credibility at international and national level through its quality education, excellent achievements, and contribution to academics, research, consultancy and training, policy and programs.

The institute that has become an iconic institution in the field of Social Work and Human Resource Management education. Just as the strength of an edifice lies in its foundations, the strength of an organization lies in its values and culture.

Social work today does not mean only charity or philanthropy. It has been accorded the significance of a profession like the other helping professions and is practiced in a systematic and methodical manner.

It is a co-educational self-financed private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Pune played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

This college has awarded as the best college in 50 years of excellence by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. Also Numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different society.

The Institute offers four specialization courses for the Masters in Social Work Programme in Family and Child Welfare, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Human Resources Management and Urban & Rural Community Development under Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

The Institute also offers autonomous Post-Graduate Diploma in Governance and Management of NGOs and Corporate Social Responsibility.

To retain and/or employ skilled professionals or technical advisors and other staff and workers in fulfillment with the objects of the Institute and to pay thereof such fees, honoraria or remuneration as may be considered suitable
To constitute Research Advisory Committee consisting of eminent social workers, educationists, and citizens for rendering guidance and assistance to the Institute in its activities connected with research work
To establish, promote, co-operate, collaborate with and/or become members of any association or other bodies having similar objects and to accept/gain or arrange for mutual financial and other assistance
To do or to cause to be done all such lawful acts or things as are not contrary to the spirit and the principles of the Constitution of the Institute, nor to the laws under which this Institute is organised and shall be conducive or incidental to the social, moral, cultural, educational and physical welfare in general and to make such alterations to the objectives of the Institute as deemed necessary

A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The Institute has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
The Institute has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
