Karnatak Arts College, Dharwad was established on 20th June 1917 to meet the long-standing demand of the people of this region for higher education.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.92 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th September 2009. 2015.
It is a co-educational private college, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Dharwad played a pioneering role in the field of higher education
College At A Glance
Due to the noble efforts of the Late Diwan Bahadur Rodda Shriniwasrao and Rao Bahadur R.S.Artal, who struggled hard and started this college to cater to the intellectual and cultural needs of the Kannadigas.
Initially, the college was housed in the Government Training College for Men as an intermediate college. Then it was upgraded as a First Grade College and was shifted to the present imperially magnificent building in 1920.
Gradually the Honors Courses and Science subjects were started, and the college went on progressing swiftly. In the year 1958, the Karnatak University took over the College for running it as a Model College, bifurcating it for administrative purposes into the Karnataka Arts College and Karnatak Science College, though both the colleges have continued to be one in spirit.
The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.
The college celebrated 1998 as the Platinum Jubilee Year.
The inaugural function of the Jubilee was held in April 1998. The celebration of Platinum Jubilee is characterized by several novel academic plans and projects, and the introduction of Management Courses was one of them.
At present, the college offers undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, Management streams under Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Both the colleges share the common campus and other campus amenities for administrative purposes. Over the years new courses like B.Com, B.B.A., M.T.A., B.T.A., B.S.W., B.Com (CS), M.A. (English), M.A. (Economics), M.Com. (CS) and M.Com were started thereby justifying what Rabindranath Tagore once said: “The great task of education is not merely to collect facts but to known the man and to make oneself known to man”.
At present, there are about 2000-2500 students studying on the campus pursuing various courses. This is a place where dreams are realized, goals are reached, targets met, careers bloom and memories cherished. Blessed indeed are those who study in these environs.
