Kabi Joydeb Mahavidyalaya, Birbhum was established in 1960. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan. This is a private aided college.

Kabi Joydeb Mahavidyalaya was established in 2007 to fulfill the aspirations of higher education of the people of Illambazar and the surrounding area. Noted for their association with legendary poet 'Joydeb' and for having a rich history and cultural heritage, the people of Illambazar had long voiced their claim for higher studies, the result of which is this College which has successsfully completed seven years and has now entered into its eighth academic session. A group of highly motivated staff comprising the Principal, the teaching and non-teaching members are desperate to take College to great heights despite of several odds, and are working in tandem with the local people for greater glories.The College has recently been recognized by the UGC, which has only boosted its prospect for further development.

The College is situated near Sukhbazar Chowpahari which is just 17 kilometers away from Bolpur. The chief mode of communication is bus which is available at regular interval of time. The place is directly connected by bus with important place like Bolpur,Durgapur,Suri and Barddhaman. It is just 25 minutes drive from Bolpur and about one hour drive from Durgapur. The campus which covers a total area of almost 7.21 acres of land safely surrounded with a boundary wall is one of the biggest in the district. it hyas a charming greenish ambience decorated by Mother Nature herself. The main building is encircled by green sal trees, vast stretch of lands which impresses at the very first sight.

The aim of the college is to provide quality education to the students. The curriculum, offered by this college is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University. The college offers under graduate courses in Arts stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities including a well stocked library.

The college comes under the University of Burdwan, started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.

MISSION & VISION

English is taught as one of the subjects in the General Courses and as a major subject in the Honours courses in our College. With a view to giving the students a workable knowledge in the English language, English was introduced in the General Courses from very moment of the inception of the College. An honours course in English literature has been introduced from 2011-2012 academic sessions after having cited student’s demand for it. In perspective of the location of the College and the kind of students taking admission in both the courses, the department has found some long-term as well as some immediate goals to achieve for itself.

In the globalised structure of the world today, the importance of English is for ever increasing, especially in a country like ours where the lack a single communicating medium is very much conspicuous. Without a workable knowledge of English, it is very difficult to survive in today’s world. And the prospect of higher studies is just not possible without a considerable proficiency in English. So we have identified the following to be our immediate point of focus.
