K.L.E. Society's S. Nijalingappa College, Bengaluru Urban was established on 23rd July 1963 under the management of K.L.E. Society (R), Belagavi.

It is one of the premier and prestigious institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1968 under Act, 1956. It also conferred the status of "College with Potential for Excellence" twice by the UGC on 18th March 2010 & 5th February 2014 respectively.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.53 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

This college is also recognized by Government of Karnataka and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi to offers management courses.

It made a humble beginning in a rented building near Mayo hall on M.G. Road with a modest strength of about 200 students and 5 staff members in 1963. Today, it has grown into a gigantic tree, scaling new heights, with more than 2802 students and 153 staff members.

It is an institution, which offers a variety of conventional and need-based courses in the Arts, Commerce, Science and technical fields.The college has maintained an atmosphere ideally suited to the all-round development of the student. Academics are pursued with the goal of igniting the curiosity of the student.

Nijalingappa College is one of the 240 institutions under KLE Society whose founding date goes back to 1916. The campus is located in the heart of Bengaluru City and sprawls across 5 acres with easy connectivity.

Over the years, there has been dynamic progress in all academic and research activities and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure, to keep on par with the best institutions in the country.

The college offers 16 UG Programs in Arts, Science, Commerce, Hotel Management, Business Management, Computer Application, Fashion and Apparel Design, and 7 PG programs in Commerce, Computer Application, Physics, Chemistry], Mathematics, and Tourism administration (02 years and 05 years).

It also conducts a number of value-added and certificate programs to make students better employable and competent to meet the challenges of the competitive and increasingly globalizing world.

The college also conducts UGC funded Certificate courses under the aegis of career oriented programs on Plant Tissue Culture, NGO Management and Development, Networking with Net-Sim, Radio Production, and Programming (Radio Jockey), Personality Development, German and French, Animation and Visual Effects, Anchoring, Voice Acting, and Personal Financial Management.

The college has the credit of having organized 12 UGC Sponsored State/National level Seminars, Conference & Workshops. It also has entered into MOU with CLHRD Mangalore, Tally India Pvt. Ltd, IFX Chennai, Kensington College of Business, London, Ehime University Japan, E-Parisaraa, Bengaluru, and others for teaching as well as research.
