K. J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce (Autonomous), Mumbai was established on 20th June 1960 and managed by Somaiya Trust, which was established on 9th September 1959.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, Mumbai and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st June 1970 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.27 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 16th September 2016.

The college still remains affiliated to the University of Mumbai and it has been given freedom to design and adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation.

The aim of the college is inculcating gender equality in a rural area, social awareness, scientific temperament, cleanliness, awareness about environmental issues.

K. J. Somaiya College is one of the leading institutions imparting higher education in the fields of Arts, Commerce, catering to the diverse needs of the present youth.

It is a co-educational Autonomous Institute granted by UGC on 19th October 2012 and providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Mumbai played a pioneering role in the field of higher education. the campus is located in another city also has a different name of institutions.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college is ranked 25th amongst top best 50 colleges in All India level and 3rd in the stream of Commerce in Mumbai also 14th in All India level and 2nd in the Stream of Arts in Mumbai and 16th in All India level (Special Issue India today dated 24th June 2013).

The college offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate program in Arts and Commerce streams for the students with various kind of specializations under the University of Mumbai, Mumbai. It also offers various Doctorate, UGC Career Oriented, & Add-On courses.

The college was started with Arts and Commerce courses. Subsequently, the facility of higher education in the faculty of Science is extended to the existing faculties of Arts and Commerce.

The college is introduced the management and Research program for the students.
