Kamala Bezboruah Memorial (K.B.M.) College of Teacher Education, Jorhat was established in April, 1990. It is one of the premier institution in the region of Jorhat town.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognised by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Brief History:

In the year 1990, considering low percentage of trained secondary teachers, a group of educationists felt the need for establishment of one B.Ed. College at Jorhat. Prof Late A.C.Goswami, Mrs Debeswari Barua, Late D.P.Neog, Late Jatindranath Goswari Prof Late T.C. Baruah, Prof Nityananda Bhattacharjya and a group of well wishers started one B.Ed. College named as COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION, Jorhat. In the same year in September the college started functioning on receipt of temporary affiliation from Dibrugarh University.

Initially the college was housed in local polytechnic High School. It continued there till the college erected its own building in May 1998. In the year 1997 Late Dr Amala Bezbarua, the then professor of Gawahati University donated Rs 5 lakh in the memory of her late mother

Kamala Bezbarua. On receipt of the donation college purchased a plot of land in Tarajan area and constructed a three storied building. Thereafter the name of the college has been as Kamala Bezbarua Memorial College of Teacher Education.

The NCTE’s inspection team visited the college in 1997. College got provisional recognition of NCTE from 1999. Following the provisional recognition, the college had to work for fulfillment of norms laid down by NCTE for permanent recognition.

The college could however, fulfill the major requirements of  infrastructure and staff. In 2005 the college got NCTE’s permanent recognition for functioning as per NCTE rules. The college also moved the Dibrugarh University for its affiliation and received the same in 2006.

The institute offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed there graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed there graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks in eligibility for admission.

Various teaching and learning techniques are being used by the faculty to impart knowledge and skills to students at Kamala Bezboruah Memorial (K.B.M.) College of Teacher Education, Jorhat in its various departments.
