Established in 1963, and managed by Aaditya Educational Foundation, the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Chennai is a joint collaboration between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Chennai is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management (NCHMCT), New Delhi. The institute is also recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

The hotel management institute has been accredited by the International Accreditation Organization (IAO) and has been awarded an ISO 9001:2008 Certification. Under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, it functions as an autonomous institute.

The institute aims at providing quality education to students who desire to make a mark in the area of hospitality administration.

Under the affiliating university, the hotel management institute provides undergraduate courses for three years in Bachelor of Science in hospitality and hotel administration. It also provides postgraduate courses for two years in Master of Science in hospitality. Besides these, it also offers add-on certificate courses and diplomas.

For academic performance, the hotel management institute has been placed in the third position at the national level and the Outlook magazine in 2012 ranked it in the list of “Top 10 Hotel Management Institutes in India”.

For the past fifty years, the institute has been providing the quality workforce to the hospitality industry. It has carved out a niche in India and abroad for providing high-quality courses.

The institute also offers a B.Sc. degree in hospitality studies and catering services through distance education under Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.

Students seeking admission to the college should qualify in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The chosen students are provided online counseling by IGNOU, New Delhi, and the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Noida.
