Affiliated to the University of Calcutta and recognized by NCTE, it is a premier Government teacher education college for women.
The Government of India upgraded it to a College of Teacher Education in the year 2001.The college started its M.Ed course from 2007 with NCTE recognition. This college has dedicated itself to quality pre-service and in-service teacher education since its inception. A large number of our trainees are employed in schools and colleges in West Bengal and other states in India.
Long after the period of Lord Warren Hastings, his favourite country residence was converted into a public school. Thereafter it was the official residence of the Resident of the Eastern States of India. After Independence, it housed the Post-Graduate Basic Training College in 1948. Subsequently in 1951 the building came to be used as the Women’s section of David Hare Training College, the renowned teacher training institution. As the number of women trainees increased, a separate Institution was established in 1954, when the decision to create a separate teacher education college exclusively for women was taken to serve the needs of women teachers.
The college offers Bachelor and Masters course in education. Post National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has given recognition in 2000.
The Institute is dedicated to modernization of teacher education through quality improvement of Pre-service and In-service teacher training programmes.
The college provides qualified lecturers to impart their experience to the students, which would help them in accomplishing their objective.
The college has all the modern facilities to help the students in acquiring the skills of a teacher.
MISSION
The college therefore dedicates itself towards preparation of competent women professionals for schools and teacher education colleges to teach to high national standards and to a value-based education to inculcate a sense of social responsibility and citizenship skills. It endeavours to provide trainees with interdisciplinary knowledge, problem solving skills and confidence required to excel in their profession and develop a consciousness of our cultural and national heritage as well as an understanding of international perspectives.
VISION
Institute of Education for Women. Hastings House will build on its tradition of inclusiveness and excellence.
