Imphal College, Nongmeibung (Dist. Imphal West) was established on 20th August 1952 as an Arts college which was founded by Shri Laishram Achaw Singh, the first principle of the college.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Manipur University, Canchipur earlier the college was affiliated with Guwahati University, Guwahati and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1980 under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.74 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 4th September 2010.

The main aim of the establishment was to impart collegiate education in the evening to the young and employed students with a poor economic background.

It is a co-educational government institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of Imphal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The history of the college was an evening/night college run with the dedicated service of the part-time teachers under the leadership of Shri (L) Laishram Achaw Singh (Ex-MP) as founder Principal of the college.

After him, during its critical day, the fate of the college was left in the hands of Shri Thoudam Nilamani Singh, the new Principal of the college and under his unflinching dedication, the college could steadily stand on its own legs. To meet the needs demanded by the then situation, the college opened its morning shift.The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

Later the college becomes a full-fledged day college in 1960 with its original morning and evening shifts catering to the academic needs of the employed students.

The college grew its strength by leaps and bounds and it became a government aided college in 1962 and immediately after it the development of the college was overflowed by opening its Science stream in 1964.To make Imphal College is looking forward to

To make Imphal College is looking forward to future to make an Autonomous Institution college by constituting its Academic Council in 2007.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

In spite of all odds the college, with 16 departments of different subjects, has become one of the best colleges in NER of India.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Manipur University, Canchipur. Also offered several Add-On courses.

The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
