Established in 1972, Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hyderabad is a registered Society under the Telangana Area Public Societies Act, 1350 Fasli (Act I of 1350F). It was started with the name, Food Craft Institute (Hyderabad) Society, Hyderabad.

Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hyderabad is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management (NCHMCT), New Delhi. The institute is also recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. This hotel management institute is also accredited by the International Accreditation Organization (IAO).

Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hyderabad is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.

The college offered diploma courses in the beginning and in 1984, it was converted into a school of hotel management. Currently, this hotel management institute offers diplomas, add-on certificate courses, undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It has been ranked as one of the top ten institutes in India.

Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hyderabad has made a mark not only in India but also abroad by providing high-quality training to its students for the past fifty years.

The institute has a tie-up with Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi through which it conducts distance education programmes.

Candidates seeking admission to the college have to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). After this, counseling is provided to the students by Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi and National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Noida.
