Ismail Yusuf College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Mumbai was popularly known as I.Y. College, Mumbai was established on 19th August 1930 under the management of the Government of Maharashtra.

It is the oldest college in North Mumbai and the fourth oldest college in the city of Mumbai. It was established with a big treasure-trove of a donation from Sir Mohammed Yusuf Ismail, K.T., on the Jogeshwari Hill.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, Mumbai and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.14 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 2nd May 2017.

The aim of the college is to introduce you to a wonderful seat of learning ensconced amid a lush green and serene environment, ideally suited to meet the challenges and high expectations of the community, society and the nation at large

The original campus of the college was spread over 120 acres of land which has now shrunk to 54 acres due to encroachments and the construction of the Western Express Highway, cutting the beautiful hillock on the college campus into two parts. The foundation of the college stone was laid by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, the then Governor of Bombay in 1924.

The campus enjoys the immense beauty of nature with innumerable banyan, palm, and other trees, rippling brooks and glittering ponds in the rainy season.

Ismail Yusuf College of Arts, Science and Commerce College is one of the leading institutions imparting higher education in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce for the students XI standard to graduation catering to the diverse needs of the present youth.

The college also offers the distance education courses for the students under the recognized centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.
