Hemo Prova Borbora (HPB) Girls College, Golaghat was established in 1969 under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (2.71 CGPA) in the year 2012.

Brief History:

In the process of establishing the college a noble-minded donor Late Alok Chandra Borbora came forward and offered Rs. 75,000/- in the glorious memory of his mother Late Hemo Prova Borbora.

The prime objective of establishing the college was to foster the advancement of higher Education among females in the rural areas of Golaghat District. The first batch started in the Boarding House of Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School on 22-7-1969. Thus it had a humble beginning with only twenty six girl students.

Later the college was shifted to its present place where it has been growing with permanent structures. The college is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh as well as registered under vide UGC letter No. 825/78 CP dated 19.1.1978 of University Grants Commission.

It has made significant strides in its development to become one of the pioneer colleges in the district imparting instructions in almost all arts subjects including Major Courses in both Higher Secondary and Undergraduate levels.

The college has seen remarkable growth over the years. And, today it is not only one of the most distinguished graduate educational institutions in the district , but is also, by many accounts, the college of first choice in many subjects. It boasts of an accomplished faculty of thirty one members, and more than one thousand students. The college is also proud of its efficient and very supportive non-academic staff.

The college also has a rich collection of books and journals in its library, the NSS and NCC Rooms, etc. Spread over 14.19 acres of land, the College premises are housed in one of the beautiful locations of Golaghat, well connected by road and train.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahat.

To make the college a leading and primer Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the state of Assam through the constant approach of Total Quality Management (TQM) of sustainable internalized best practices conforming to the objectives of the college and thereby achieving quality and excellence in the continuous improvement process

To adopt the five stage best practices approach “Four I and D Model” in the institution for the promotion of academic environment of the institution

To identify the best practices conforming to the various aspects of curricula and pedagogic requirements of the institution and implement the same for the satisfaction of the stakeholders

The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning with Young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff

The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, computer centre, seminar halls, reading rooms, indoor stadium, outdoor stadium, Multi Gym & hostel etc.

The college campus is eco-friendly and free from outside disturbance which provides a congenial atmosphere for study

The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed

The college has girls. Hostel seats are alloted on the basis of merit of the students by the Hostel Committee set up for the purpose. A few seats are reserved for SC / ST candidates

Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs

The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college

A cash prize of Rs. 1,001/- is awarded to the student who secures highest mark in the last HSLC Examination with a First Division amongst the students who get themselves admitted into the 1st Year Higher Secondary Course of this college

A cash prize of Rs. 2,000/- is awarded to the student who secures highest marks in the last Higher Secondary Examination with a First Division amongst the students who get themselves admitted into the B.A. 1st semester course of this college

State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC

All the students of the college are provided with individual Smart Cards as their Identity Card

Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
