Established on 26th July 1948, in the memory of Mahatma Hansraj, Hansraj College in North Delhi is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, and managed by the largest non-government educational body of India, the DAV Managing Committee.
The founder of the DAV College, Lahore, Mahatma Hansraj was a pioneer as far as the field of education is concerned. It was established to provide higher education to deserving candidates and become a landmark in the field of education.
Hansraj College is affiliated to the University of Delhi, New Delhi and it was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st January 1971 under the UGC Act, 1956.
It was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA score 3.62 on a 4 point scale in the 1st cycle) on 12th September 2017.
Hansraj College aims at keeping its institutional practices up to date in order to meet the demands of the ever-changing knowledge society. It also aims at empowering its students with social skills and intellectual resources to become a success in the ever-changing world.
Located in the urban part of Delhi, Hansraj College is a co-educational college that provides regular courses and has been playing a significant role in imparting higher education to students. It is a grant-in-aid college and as such, the facilities provided to the students and the fees structure are decided by the government.
Originally started as an educational institution for men, the college was made co-educational in the year 1978. Hansraj College has been ranked the second-best college of Delhi University after Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in commerce and after St. Stephen's College in science.
During the celebration of the college's 69th Foundation Day, industrialist Naveen Jindalan, an alumnus of this college announced that the college would get the privilege of being the first college to hoist the national flag on its premises.
Hansraj College has received many awards and recognition at the city, state, and national level in the fields of sports, extracurricular activities and academics under the University of Delhi, New Delhi.
Hansraj College, for many years, has been ranked among the top ten colleges of India in all spheres.
At Hansraj College, undergraduate courses (three years) and postgraduate courses (two years) are conducted in the science, commerce and arts streams. Various specializations are also offered under Delhi University. Add-on certificate courses and Ph.D. courses are also offered.
Hansraj College hosts a teaching centre for the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB). This board attempts at providing an undergraduate degree from Delhi University to those young women who cannot attend a regular college due to various reasons.
NCWEB conducts classes on Saturdays and Sundays, which leaves the students to carry on with activities of their choice and follow their dreams in their own way on other days. Guest faculties conduct classes at NCWEB. The courses offered at NCWEB are B.A. and B.Com (three years).
Hansraj College conducts many exchange programmes in collaboration with universities from foreign countries. The college also has an International Languages School that is in charge of providing certificate courses in Asian and European languages.
Hansraj College has its own unique selection process. An online application process enables the prospective applicants to fill in their academic achievements and interests.
Only those who have registered with the university are eligible for admission to the college. To get admission to this college, candidates should take into account their percentage marks, i.e., best of four/PCB/PCM, whichever is applicable. They must make sure that the cut-off percentage that is declared by the college is adhered to in case of admission to different courses.
Various examinations are held at the college. These are the university exams of different courses and also exams conducted by the University of Delhi, New Delhi.
