Government Ranbir College, Sangrur was established in 1939 as an Inter College with the courtesy of Late Maharaja Ranbir Singh of Jind. Later in 1943, the college became Degree College.

The college is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala formerly affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1970 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.47 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th May 2014.

In 1963, the local Ranbir College of girls was merged into college & the college become a co-educational college.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The aim of the college was to equip our students in the most befitting manner enabling them to brave new challenges of globalization.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Sangrur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Punjabi University, Patiala.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams and two years of post-graduation in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Punjabi University, Patiala. It offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses as well.

  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
  • A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
