Govt. (Model, Autonomous) Holkar Science College, Indore was popularly known as Holkar Science College, Indore established on 10th June 1891 by the then King of erstwhile Holkar state Hon'ble Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st April 1960 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.49 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) in 2016.

The aim of the college was striven hard to fulfill its promises of providing quality education to produce thoughtful, intelligent and competent human beings capable of facing the challenges of the life bravely.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Indore played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

At the time of opening of the new building of the college, the college of the state stressed the need of girl education. The king could foresee that conservatism and dogmatic religious beliefs would soon give way to scientific outlook and rationalism.

With the increasing number of students and multiplication of disciplines, the college was split into two separate and independent units.

One of these two colleges was designated as Govt. Arts and Commerce College while this college retained its prestigious original name i.e. Holkar College.

At present, the institution is imparting education in science with the emphasis on scientific research. During the course of its journey, the college remained affiliated to Calcutta and Allahabad Universities.

In view of the quality of education provided by the college, the Govt. of M.P. recognized this college as a Model college in 1985-86.

The UGC found it fit to be an autonomous college conferred as a status prior to the grant of 'Autonomy' on 10th June 1891 and ever since then the college has been a full-fledged autonomous institution (in both at UG and PG levels) on 1st September 1989.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

on 2nd March 2002, it was also given the status of being a "Center for Excellence" by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Science streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Science with various specializations under Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. It also offers M.Phill, Ph.D. and Certificate courses.

Also, the UG and/or PG programmes offered by the college which is not covered under the Autonomous status of UGC Govt. are Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce with various specialization under Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
