Govt. Girls P.G. College, Chhatarpur was popularly known as Govt. Girls College, Chhatarpur was established on 28th October 1968 as a private college by the M.P. Education Society. It was then known as the Arts and Home Science Girls College and now managed by Jan Bhagidari Samiti (JBS).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar & Mahara Chhatrasal Bundel Khand University, Chhatarpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 26th May 1988 & 12(B) on 12th August 2015 under Act, 1956.

The aim of the college was to function as a centre of academic excellence, to achieve excellent results in the examination to help students in developing their personality by drawing out their talents and they may be able to face the challenges of life and competitive
world.

It is a woman government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Chhatarpur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The society carried on its work until 1997, after which it handed over administration to Siksha Prasar Samiti that continued working from October 1977 to September 1982.

The college was undertaken by M.P. Government on 1st October 1982. Later It was declared a postgraduate college in 1996.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar & Mahara Chhatrasal Bundel Khand University, Chhatarpur.

The college is the only postgraduate girl's college in the three districts of Madhya Pradesh. i.e. Panna, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh. Also, the college comes under the jurisdiction of Add. Director Higher Education, Rewa.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts and Science streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Arts and Science with various specializations under Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar & Mahara Chhatrasal Bundel Khand University, Chhatarpur.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar & Mahara Chhatrasal Bundel Khand University, Chhatarpur and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.

The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
