Govt. D.S.V. Sanskrit College, Raipur was established in 1955.
It affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956.
The college then academically known for its backwardness was the Herculean task for Pt. Ravishankar Shukla, then the chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh. But it was Punditji's aspirations and firm determination and Mahant Vaishnava's Generosity and charitability that made it possible.
For this purpose, Mahantji donated immovable property in the form of land and capital for a constitution of a Govt. Trust with the objective of promoting Sanskrit learning in this Region. As a result, Dr. Rajendra Prasad the then president of India laid the foundation of this institution in 1955.
The Institution in its early years was affiliated to the Prachya Vidya faculty of Dr. H.S.Gaur University, Sagar, the only feeding centre of studies for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Later in 1964 with the coming up of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, the faculty obtained affiliation to it.
At present, the institution is running degree and above degree courses similar to Sastri and Acharya Upadhi in Prachya Vidya way of learning. The college comes under the Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur.
