Government College, Panchkula or Govt. College Sec - 1, Panchkula was established in 1983.

The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.20 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 21st February 2014.

Situated in the lap of Shivalik hills, illuminated by glorious rays of education, our college has been committed to impart quality education to all since its inception.

The college was started as an undergraduate institution and has recorded steady progress and today, it is a full-fledged, coeducation institution with 6 undergraduate courses, 1 PG Diploma in Computer application, five postgraduate courses (M.A. in English, Political Science, History, and MCom.) and B.P.Ed.

The college excelled in all fields including academics, sports NCC, Cultural Activities and Co-curricular activities thereby personifying complete growth and empowerment of each student.

Catering to the need of 2700 students, The college has an excellent faculty comprising of 87 Assistant and Associate Professors out of whom 27 are Ph.Ds and 31 are M.Phils.

The college also has the support of 2 guest faculty and 27 non-teaching employees.  With their help we continue to make great strides in the achievement of our vision to be a great learning college, while consistently focussing on our mission to meet the learning needs of our students. Total strength of students in the current session (2013-14) is 2696.

Over the years the institute has made a consistent contribution in the field of academics and co-curricular activities. Fully equipped with a well-stocked Library, English Language Lab, EDUSAT Lab Multimedia Lab, and various Science Laboratories, the institute regularly conducts seminars, workshops, and training programmes.

Sports and cultural activities occupy an integral place in their curriculum. Annual Parent Teacher Meet and Alumni Association have come out to be a key feature of the institute.

  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject.

  • The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
