Government Training College, Hooghly was established in 1955.
The College has made a very rapid progress since its inception. It is a first grade Teachers’ Training College in West Bengal with NCTE recognition that has spread its fame far and wide. The river Ganges in front of this college has added to its scenic beauty.
This college is approximately 40 kms from Kolkata and 3 kms from Bandel Station. This institution boasts of a glorious history in both academic and cultural sphere.
This college has also been upgraded as College for Teacher Education(CTE) by the Ministry of H. R. D., Govt. of India. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. The College comes under the University of Burdwan. T
his University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor.
It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
The jurisdiction of the university spreads across five districts of West Bengal - Burdwan, Hooghly (excluding Serampore Subdivision), Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia, nourishing more than 100 colleges.
