Established in 1964, Government Pharmacy College, Bengaluru is a government-run pharmacy college and it is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru.
It is ranked among the top pharmacy institutions in Karnataka and offers B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and D.Pharm with various specializations.
In the beginning, the college was offering only D.Pharm. and B.Pharm courses. Later on M.Pharm. the course was introduced. Now the institution is offering D.Pharm. (60 seat intake), B.Pharm (50 seat intake) and PG courses in four specializations namely M.Pharm. (Pharmaceutics with 08 seat intake), M. Pharm (pharmacognosy with 08 seat intake), M. Pharm (pharmacology with 08 seat intake) and M.Pharm (pharma chemistry with 08 seat intake).
This has helped the socio-economically backward and meritorious students of Karnataka. However, the growth of Pharma sector and the population enhanced the opportunities and demand for trained pharmacists.
As a result, several private pharmacy institutions were begun in the state. In spite of spurt of private institutions, GCP is catering the needs of meritorious and economically backward students, as the cost in private institutions is very high.
The college grew phenomenally under the stewardship of stalwarts in the field as its principals. The institution is the first pharmacy college in the state has been considered as the pioneer institution in the country.
The alumni of this institution scattered to the nook and corner of the world and serving the profession in various capacities and bringing laurels not only to them and but also for the institution.
