Government M. H. College of Home Science & Science for Women (Autonomous), Jabalpur was established on 15th July 1954, conceived by Mr. Parmanand Bhai Patel, a renowned industrialist of Jabalpur.came into existence with only Home Science classes

The college came into existence with only Home Science classes and managed by jab Bhagidari Samiti (JBS). Mohanlal Hargovinddas donated Rs. One Lakh for the establishment of the college. The reason the college name was added in the name of Mohanlal Hargovinddas as M.H. College.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1979 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.41 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 10th March 2012.

The aim of the college was offered adequately strengthened to develop appropriate skills, which are significant not only to the students but also to the local, regional and national needs also sufficient freedom was allowed to the students to choose the courses best suited to their interests and capabilities

It is a women's government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Jabalpur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The idea of establishing an Educational Institute for women was conceived by Mr. Parmanand Bhai Patel, a renowned industrialist of Jabalpur.

In 1955 Mankuwar Bai College of Arts was merged with this institute. Looking at the progress of the Home Science Faculty, the Government of Madhya Pradesh granted permission to conduct Science classes as well.

In 1986 Mankuwar Bai College became an independent Institute of Arts and Commerce. Hence the parent college became the college for Home Science and Science.

The M H College is one of the pioneering institutions of Madhya Pradesh that adopted the autonomous system in the Higher Education in 1988-89.

The Autonomous status was conferred to the college by University Grants Commission, New Delhi in 1988-89. As per the UGC norms, the autonomous status was extended to 2012-2013 after successive reviews.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" in 2004 & Govt of India as the best college by their Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Science and Arts streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Arts and Science with various specializations under Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur. It also offers Postgraduate Diploma, Ph. D and Certificates courses.

The college also has a contact centre under Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi to offer UG, PG, & Add-On Certificate courses through distance mode.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
