Government College Sarni, Betul was established in 1989 and managed by Jan Bhagidari Samiti (JBS).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Barkatullah University, Bhopal formerly affiliated with Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12 (B) on 1st September 1996 under Act, 1956.

The aim of the college was to produce intellectually enlightened, spiritually inspired, emotionally balanced, morally upright and socially committed young Youth. The programmes are in conformity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the institution.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the tribal and rural part of Betul played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The only college in the district was Jayawanti Haksar P.G. College. Since it had limited seats a demand was made by the citizens of the Sarni to establish a separate college for students.

Thus, this college was established in this tribal district by Government of M.P in the year 1989 with a view to bridging the gap between the tribal people and other sections of the society. Later it was shifted to its newly constructed building on 8th December 1996.

The college was started with Arts course only. Commerce, Science, and other PG courses were started in the years 2004 and 2005 respectively and are functioning for progression in various disciplines up to graduation level.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, and Commerce streams and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Barkatullah University, Bhopal and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.

The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
