Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu was established 1994.

It was established in under All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu.  This was the first Institute of its kind in Jammu region.

Govt. College of Engineering & Technology (GCET), Jammu was established with the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) vide Notification No. : F-18-1/93-AICTE/910 dated: April 30, 1993 and is affiliated to the University of Jammu. The college intake was increased to 300 in 2015 from an initial capacity of 160. GCET Campus is spread over 869 kanals of land at Chak Bhalwal, Jammu which is 22 kms away from Jammu city. The college was established with a vision to provide valuable resources for industry and society through excellence in technical education and research.

The College offers Engineering UG Degree Courses in Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical and Civil Engineering with an intake capacity of 60 students per branch. It is pertinent to mention here that three Departments namely Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering are NBA Accredited. Besides this, the College has started Lateral Entry Scheme in B.E. 3rd Semester with intake of 10% of the sanctioned intake capacity, supernumerary to the approved intake in each discipline of Engineering from Session 2015 onwards.The College has also started PG Degree Courses(M.Tech) in Electronics & Communication, Computer Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with an intake capacity of 18 students per branch from the session 2020 onwards.

Apart from imparting education to the students of UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh, the college is also actively involved in offering Consultancy Services to various Government/Semi Government Agencies such as PMGSY, CPWD, PDD, MES, PWD, ERA, Central University, IRKON, Konkan Railways etc. 

Training and Placement Cell of the college adopts proactive approach to train the students as per the needs and demands of the Job market. The Alumni of this Institution have excelled in various spheres and are positioned very well globally in a number of leading Government, Public Sector & Private Organizations at the State and National level, thus brining laurels to the Institute.
