Gossner College (GC), Ranchi was established on 1st November 1971.

It is one of the oldest institutions formed by the Gossner Evangelical and Lutheran Church (GELC) of Chotanagpur and Assam and has been provided Grants-in-Aid status (Deficit Grant) by the Government of Jharkhand.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

It is a minority college affiliated to Ranchi University, Ranchi and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1973 under Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The main aim of the college is to provide the vista of university education to the deserving students coming from socially, economically backward and underprivileged communities of this region, particularly the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and other Backward Communities. Preference is given to students from these communities.

However, since the college is situated in the heart of Ranchi (Jharkhand, India), students of other communities and regions may also apply.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management courses streams under Ranchi University, Ranchi. It also offers some Certificate & Add-On Courses.

  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs

  • The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
  • A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
  • State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject

  • The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
