Government Arts & Commerce College, Malviya Hostel, Bhopal was popularly known as Government Arts & Commerce Naveen, Bhopal established on 3rd September 1987 but came into existence on 11th April 1997.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Barkatullah University, Bhopal and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 2000 under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (in 1st Cycle) in 2006.

The aim of the college was to set goals that are reflected in curricula with emphasis on qualitative higher education relevant to society as per contemporary needs.

In 1987, classes of college were running in Govt. Hamidia College, Bhopal, after this in 1988 college shifted in private building at Malviya Hostel premises in Malviya Nagar, Bhopal.

Initially, the college started with only Art stream at graduation level. Later in 1988 according to the requirement of student college started Commerce stream. Presently Arts and Commerce stream is available at graduation level.

It was a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bhopal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Commerce, and Mangement streams and offers two years of post-graduate courses in Arts streams with various specializations under Barkatullah University, Bhopal. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma and Add-On Course.

Admission to various courses is granted through merit-cum-reservation policy of the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the cut off marks vary for different courses.

The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
