Faculty of Visual Arts - Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi is a constituent department of Banaras Hindu University, was established in 1916 leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts Course and Postgraduate course of Master in Fine Arts.

It is a premier arts department for advanced training in Visual Art i.e. Creative and Applied Art, under the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and run by Government of Uttar Pradesh.

This department runs courses under the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956

The department aims to prepare the students for creative and applied responsibilities in the world of art and design.

It is a co-educational State Govt. Institute, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Varanasi played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The department that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

The department has received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

The department offers 4 years undergraduate program in Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Degree and 2 years of Master of Fine Arts Courses and also research program.

The department offers courses for advanced training in Visual Art, creative and applied, leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art Course and Postgraduate course of Master in Fine Art.

There are five different Departments in the Faculty of Visual Arts that offers Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) degrees. These are listed below:

Painting
Applied arts
Plastic arts
Pottery and ceramics
Textile designing

The department has its own selection process unlike other colleges under Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

The department has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.

Admission here has been done when seekers who have registered with the University are eligible for admissions in the department.

Such candidates should examine whether their percentage marks (Best of Four/PCB/PCM, whichever is applicable) falls within the cut- off percentage declared by the college for admission in different courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

The department has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
The department has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
The department has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The department also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the department
The department Unit NSS Wing performs a different type of social services within and outside of the area
The department also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
The department consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
