Established as a constituent department under The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara in June 1950. Faculty of Fine Arts, Vadodara is managed by University Committee.
It is one of the leading institutions in Fine Arts and attracts an appreciable number of foreign students and emphasis was laid on individuality through knowledge of Indian and Western traditions.
The department run courses under The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956
The department aims to prepare the students for creative and applied responsibilities in the world of art and design.
It is a co-educational state Govt. Institute aims to prepare the students for the world of art and design by providing undergraduate, postgraduate, and post diploma programs in various specializations.
The Department At A Glance:
The famous Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma was invited to the princely state of Baroda by the Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III belonging the royal Gaekwad dynasty of the Marathas in 1881.
He produced several other fine canvases during his stay. His visit is generally credited as a motivating force in the creation of The Baroda Museum under the patronage of Maharaja Sayajirao, which began construction in 1887 and was completed in 1894.
Later the Maharaja established a Science College and then converted into Fine Arts college for the student. The Baroda College, one of the oldest Centers of learning in western India, came to include the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The college has received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara.
The college became synonymous with modernist art practices and experimentation in India.
The Faculty of Fine Arts went on to participate in exhibitions worldwide.
At present, the department offers 4 years of the program in Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA), 2 years of Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master of Visual Arts and research programs.
For the first time in independent India, a programme of study was introduced to offer UG/Diploma, PG/Post-Diploma Courses, and Research facilities.
The department has its own selection process unlike other colleges & departments under the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. The department has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.
Admission here has been done when seekers who have registered with the University are eligible for admissions in the college.
Such candidates should examine whether their percentage marks (Best of Four/PCB/PCM, whichever is applicable) falls within the cut- off percentage declared by the college for admission in different courses.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, and various other examinations are held in the college premises. Applications are open for Choice Based Credit System for the first cum first courses.
