Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education, Sawyerpuram was established in 2005.

The College is now affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University, Chennai.

Their aim was to make Sawyerpuram a kind of university, surpassing anything of the kind that was to be found at that time in the Madras Presidency.
The ‘Seminary’ was their laboratory where he experimented with and perfected his teaching techniques.
The College is a self financing, co-educational institution with an intake of 100 students.
The motto of Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education is “Be the first be with the first”.
The College aims at excellence in education and gives training in all round development of the trainees.
