Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), Pune was established in 1956.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), Pune, sponsored by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pune, was declared as “Deemed-to-be-University” under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 in 2003. From a humble beginning with one constituent unit i.e. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pune; DPU over the last 16 years has grown exponentially with addition of eight more constituent units under its ambit.

The Government of India, MHRD, on the advice of UGC, declared Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune as Deemed-to-be University comprising of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune vide its notification dated 11^th January 2003.

Later on, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development included three more institutions namely Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital, Pimpri, Pune, Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing, Pimpri, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Physiotherapy, Pimpri Pune (which were established in the year 2000) under the ambit of the deemed-to-be-university vide its notification dated 20^th September, 2006.

Subsequently, three new institutes namely, Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute, Tathawade, Pune, Global Business School & Research Centre, Tathawade, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Optometry & Visual Sciences, Pimpri, Pune were approved by UGC; vide its Office Memorandum dated 16^th March 2010.

Furthermore, Institute of Distance Learning, Pimpri, Pune was approved by the Joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC, New Delhi vide DEC Letter dated 4^th August 2010. Subsequently UGC accorded approval for continuation vide its letter dt. 3^rd June 2014. UGC accorded its latest approval vide its letter 6^th September 2016 for the academic year 2016-17 and 2017-18. UGC has accorded approval for ODL Programmes vide its letter dated 26^th March 2019 as per clause 4.10 of UGC (Categorisation of University only) for grant of Graded Autonomy Regulation, 2018.

Also, UGC has accorded approval vide its letter dated 7^th July 2020 for the programmes to be offered in online mode from 2019-20 Academic session beginning January 2020 and onwards.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD); vide its notification No. F.10-12/2016-U.3(A) dated 23^rd February 2018, on the advice of UGC, included the Dr. D. Y. Patil Homeopathic Medical College & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune under the ambit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University) as constituent colleges.

Thus, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (DPU) had a humble beginning with one institution under its fold. Over the last 18 years it has grown by leaps and bounds with the addition of 9 more professional institutions. Today the nine institutions of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune have created a brand name "DPU" in the field of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Biotechnology, Management, Ayurved and Homeopathy. Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has state-of-the-art infrastructure & dedicated faculty over & above the respective council norms.

DPU has achieved significant academic growth and development in the field of professional and health sciences education over the last two decades. DPU offers 127 academic programmes covering Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Management and allied health sciences like Physiotherapy, Nursing and Optometry. All the programs offered in these Institutes have been duly recognized by respective Councils such as MCI /DCI /INC /CCIM /CCH /AICTE /UGC etc. Academic flexibility in terms of CBCS/ Elective options is offered by DPU in Biotechnology, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Optometry programmes. A dedicated team of 682 faculty members is involved in providing quality education to more than 5200 students.

The Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has been Raccredited (3rd Cycle) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A++’ Grade.

The Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune is an ISO 9001: 2015 and 14001:2015 Certified as also Green Education Campus.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune as Category-I Deemed to be University status as per the provision of Categorization of the Deemed to be University under UGC [Categorization of Universities (only) for Grant of Graded Autonomy] Regulations, 2018 vide UGC letter dated 20^th April, 2018.0020Recently, the name of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune is included in the list of Institutions Deemed to be Universities under section 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956 by UGC.

Under National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020, conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi, the Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has achieved rank 3^rd in Dental Category, 24^thin Medical Category, 46^th in University Category and 75^th in Overall Category in India.

Under Swachh Campus Ranking 2019 of Higher Educational Institutions, conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi, the Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has achieved as 9^th rank amongst the Cleanest Higher Educational Institutions in the Country in the category ‘Residential Universities – UGC’.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Tathawade, Pune and Global Business School and Research Centre, Tathawade, Pune, were recognised as “Social Entrepreneurship Swachhata & Rural Engagement Cell (SES REC) Institutions, by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India in September, 2020.

Recently, DPU has received “One District One Green Champion” 2021-22 Award for Swachhata Action Plan conducted by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

DPU is recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) in 2014 for a period of 3 years (30/04/2014 to 31/03/2017) and renewed for further period of 3 years (i.e.

01/04/2017 to 31/03/2020 and 01/04/2020 to 31/03/2023, respectively).

DPU Ethics Committee is registered by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) in 2013 and re-registered in 2016 and 2019. DPU is registered with Foreign contribution regulation Act 1976 (FCRA) in 2013 and re-registered in 2018 for further five years.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune; Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital, Pimpri, Pune; Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune has been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).

‘Regenerative Medicine Laboratory’ of Vidyapeeth and ‘Sudhatatva Pharmacy’ of Ayurveda College is FDA Approved and GMP Certified.

The Molecular Diagnostic Lab has been also established at DPU to provide a platform for ongoing and proposed research theme areas. The laboratory is NABL accredited and also engaged in providing COVID-19 testing facility. The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory has also achieved the distinction of 100% Concordance in WHO EQAS Panel during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Pune of the Vidyapeeth has received the prestigious DST-FIST award for Development of Infrastructure and equipment for teaching and Research.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Pune has been recognized as a Regional Centre for conducting revised Basic Course Workshop exclusively for PG teachers (rBCW-PG) in stand-alone PG Institutions by National Medical Commission, New Delhi on 11th February 2021.

The Journal of Medical College “Medical Journal of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth” has been indexed in SCOPUS and UGC-CARE. Also, Journal of Dental College “Journal of Dental Research and Review” has been indexed in UGC-CARE.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth offers state-of-the-art facility for Research in the campus at Pimpri and Tathawade. It has 98 laboratories for research and student training.

Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, Central Research Facility and Microbial Diversity Centre are the three main research and development centers where research is carried out in the field of stem cells, molecular biology and microbiology respectively.

DPU have created a conducive environment to undertake collaborative research projects combining teaching-learning and research, to nurture originality, creativity and novelty. In last 5 years, DPU published more than 4200 papers in International and National journals of repute, which are indexed in Scopus, Pub Med, Web of Science and UGC-CARE approved journals. These cover a wide range of areas from medical, dental, biotechnology & bioinformatics, physiotherapy, nursing, ayurved, homoeopathy and management. There has been a significant rise in h-index up to 51, indicating translational value and higher citations received by individual publication. Total number of 15348 citations have been received in the last five years. The highest impact factor among the publications during the year under report was 60.392 (The Lancet), 42.778 (Nature), 21.597 (Lancet Global Health). Publishing papers is only one part of research, however, filing patents and writing books, chapters, editing books, forms yet another aspect. In last five years DPU has filed 33 patents and 17 Copyrights out of which 26 patents are published and 1 patent is granted.

Research is impossible without funding. DPU has always been supporting research activities and has provided seed money of more than 393 Lakhs during last five years. In addition, university has received a total extramural grant of more than 1271 Lakhs from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science & Technology (DST), ICMR and foreign agencies like National Institute of Health, USA and Harvard Medical School Centre for Global Health Delivery, Dubai.

DPU celebrates Annual Research Day called UNMESH for the UG, PG, Ph.D. scholars and young budding faculty. There are several activities conducted which involve paper presentation, posters and patent booth, 1-minute video presentation, quiz and pedagogue with clips from movie and web series.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College received the UNMESH rolling trophy for the year 2020. DPU promotes Interdisciplinary research and conducts yearly conference for Interdisciplinary Research in Health Sciences.

The research work done by the faculty is appreciated and Research Awards are given to the most deserving candidates under four categories (Dr. P. D. Patil Young Researcher award, Consistent Performance award, Innovative Teaching award and Research award).

A Bibliometric Cell has been established at DPU to centralize the research publications at one point. From 2020, DPU has offered 25 full time Ph.D. and Post-doctoral scholarships. A scholar can also pursue Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Sciences. The university has set a benchmark by offering conducive learning environment and research culture among the students and the faculty.

The MOU with the University of Skövde (Sweden) in the area of environment and health protection has resulted in the generation of five national patents and faculty and students exchange under the Linnaeus-Palme Teachers’ Exchange Program. Meaningful extension and outreach activities are undertaken to realize institutional social responsibility with the active participation of staff and students.

Similarly, MOU with Johns Hopkins University has helped in getting research funds from NIH (USA) focusing on communicable diseases. This collaborative program is highly successful and continuing for over seven years. Recently two research projects on communicable diseases have been sanctioned by NIH under this collaboration
