Dr. Ambedkar College of Education, Bengaluru Urban was established on 14th August 1980 under the management of Karnataka People's Education Society, Kalaburgi was formerly known as Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, Gulbarga which was established in 1976.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and it is a grant-in-aid institution recognized by Govt. of Karnataka and University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is also recognized & approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru to offer B.Ed. course and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.09 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th September 2011.
The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
The college has nine teaching staff members of whom three are Ph.D. Degree holders. Three Staff Members are doing Ph.D. in Education. Members of staff are involved in innovative in-service programs as resource persons at local, state and national levels.
There is twelve supporting staff including a qualified librarian. The college is also serving as a study centre for Karnataka State Open University’s B.Ed. Distance Education Programme.
The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
