Dr. Ambedkar College, Deeksha Bhoomi (Dist. Nagpur) was established on 1st June 1964 and managed by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti (R), which was founded in 1958.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 4th June 2002 & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.17 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 27th March 2011.

Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts and Commerce was established from this academic session, 1964-65 under the auspices of Param Poojya Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, Nagpur.

At this stage, it had two faculties, Arts and Commerce, with two classes each the Pre-University class and Part-I class of the three years Degree Course of Nagpur University.

The formal inauguration of the college by Shri V.P.Naik, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Government. The C.M. agreed to donate Rs.15,000/- to the college from the C.M.'s fund. Three years earlier Shri Y.B. Chavan, the then C.M. of Maharashtra State had laid the foundation stone of the college.

The aim of the college is to promote holistic development of the students, the commitment to social justice, with a preferential option for the poor and rural section.

The college began with just five classrooms, five lecturers, and 300 students, imparting education in the faculties of Arts and Commerce. Today the college proudly claims to house more than 50 classrooms, has on roll around 6000 students, and offers various courses in multiple disciplines with over 40 permanent members of the teaching staff as well as 66 members comprising the non-teaching staff.

Education in the Science Stream commenced in 1969 and Law was introduced in 1984. The college has committed itself to provide quality education to all state and becoming the center of excellence in the process of facilitating effective teaching and learning with several career-oriented traditional and specialty programs.

It is co-educational institute, providing a regular/ day/ evening course which is located in an urban part of Nagpur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

At present, there are around 400 students enrolled in Law courses and this discipline has its independent building on the campus. Undergraduate Courses in Biotechnology and BCA Science began in 2006 and 2008 respectively. DACN offers a number of post-graduate Courses. M.Com in both mediums was started in 1980.

Since 1994 we began with M.A. in English, Economics and Marathi and M.Sc. in Chemistry, Computer Science, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology. In 2008 we took off with Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Bioinformatics and a one-year PG Diploma in Biochemical Genomics (Pharmacogenomics) under the UGC Innovative Programme.

Since last year, a one-year Diploma Course in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has commenced very successfully. The latest courses to be added to this plenitude are Master's Degree Programme in Law in Constitutional Law, Business Law, Criminal Law as well as M.Sc. in Physics. Dr. T. K. Damodaran instrumental in, not only introducing new courses to the college but also in gaining 2(f) recognition under the UGC which helped to generate maximum funds for the college development.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 23rd March 2010.

At present, the college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams with various optional specializations under Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune.

The college also offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, & doctorate programs in Arts, Science & Commerce streams for the students, also the latest Law education and Computer application programs are also offered to the students. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses.
