DODLA Kousalyamma GOVERNMENT COLLEGE FOR WOMEN – NELLORE is the First Women’s College with Hostel Facility in Nellore District. Sri Dodla Subba Reddy, a Philanthropist donated magnanimously in the name his wife Smt. Dodla Kousalyamma for the establishment of this college in 1964. The present buildings were got constructed by the donor in an area of about 25 acres in centre of Nellore Town in 1968.
The college was bifurcated into Junior and Degree Colleges during 1996-97. Since the inception, the college has been offering basic courses like B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc., including B.Sc. Home Science at undergraduate level. Restructured self financed courses like Computer Science, Computer Applications, Bio-Technology, Microbiology and Communicative English were introduced in 1996-97. Post Graduate courses in Zoology (2000-01), Telugu & English (2002-03) and Mathematics & Microbiology (2008-09) were added later. A Jawaharlal Knowledge Centre (JKC) was opened during 2006-07 with the objective of training the students to meet the global challenges in view of Information Technology revolution. A District Resource Center (DRC) was established during 2007-08 to coordinate and to share the facilities available in the colleges of the District.
The Institution was the first Government College in the State of Andhra Pradesh to be accredited by NAAC - Bangalore, that was the year 2003. The College went for Re-accreditation and got 'A' grade. The present strength of the college is nearly 1000. The College excels not only in academics but also in fine arts and sports. The College is committed to mould the young women into skilled, responsible disciplined and socially conscious individuals with strong value base.
