Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Patna University was established in 1974.

Its affiliated to Patna University.

then known as Institute of correspondence Course, Patna University was established in 1974 and it is the first institute in the large eastern region of India to impart education through correspondence.

Being an integral part of the Patna University the Directorate of Distance Education is governed by the decisions of the statutory bodies of the university.

At present more than 13,000 students are getting their education through this institute.

The examinations of the DDE students are conducted by the Patna University and their degrees are awarded by the Patna University.

The Directorate of Distance Education, Patna University is offering at present many courses and it is planning to start many new vocational courses in near future for the benefit of the students.
