Dikhowmukh College, Sivasagar was established in July, 1982. The long-Cherished dream of the inhabitants of Jakaichuck and West Konwarpur Mouzas came true by establishing this college.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh in 1984 and recieved University Grant Commission (UGC) recognition under Section 12 (B) and 2 (f) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in December, 2005.

It is now a provincialised college under the Govt. of Assam and it has completed its Silver Jubilee in the year 2007.

Brief History:

It is situated about 5 km away from the National Highway No.37 through the terminus of Gourisagar, by the side of the historic Bor Ali. A few kilometers ahead of the college is the confluence of the rivers Dikhow, Goriajan and Barhmaputra (Dikhowmukh) - a popular picnic spot and also the seat of religious unity, in the form of the famed Ajan Peer Dargah and Ramkha Peeth.

The "Moglow" tank in the heart of the college resurrects the glory of the Monipuri Princess Kuranganayani .The huge college campus with its serene surrounding ensures an ideal academic atmosphere.The Dikhowmukh College nestles in a placid and serene village called Moglow, around 22 k.m. west of Sivasagar Town.

It is an area inhabited by a heterogeneous people, mostly comprising SC, ST and OBCs. A traditionally riverine area, it is full of low-lying beels and wetlands. The climatic condition in the area is identical with that of the entire district - hot in summer and cold in winter. The area experiences heavy rainfall during summer

The college has seven (7) departments - English, Assamese, Economics, Political Science, Education, History and Sociology and all the department offer major courses at the degree level. The college has also introduced a number of Vocational courses. The founder Principal, who is still associated the college as the chief advisor as well as a tutor, its spearheading the college’s academic pursuits. The founder teachers are still serving here with full co-operation of the new-comers.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, and the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

Goals & Obejectives:

  • To impart quality higher education in this backward, flood-affected, tribal dominated area marred by insurgency and political turmoil
  • To ensure an all round mental and intellectual development of the students inculcating in them civic and moral values
  • To guide and enlighten the local populace with regards to social responsibility by evoking a sense of awareness among them
  • To sensitize the local youth about the value of self-employment and self-reliance by introducing locally viable vocational and self-financing courses
  • To divert the modern youths from the growing indiscipline among the students by keeping them fully engaged in varied activities thereby promoting integration
  • To make the youths aware of the rich cultural heritage of this region
  • To educate train, undertake research and provide service to community
  • To adapt to the changing scenario by keeping pace with the latest in the field of higher education


Rules & Regulations at Dikhowmukh College, Sivasagar:

  • No student as allowed to take any other full time course concurrently with the higher Secondary and degree course. Otherwise disciplinary will be taken.
  • A student must attend the required number of classes and participate in other academic activities according to college rules in each department,failing which he/she shall be debarred from appearing at the final examination.
  • Students are responsible for their conduct to the principal, to the members of the staff(teaching and non teaching) and to the fellow students. For any untoward conduct both inside and outside the college students will face appropriate punishment like warning,fineor even suspension from classes as well the college,if the situation demands so.
  • Students shall maintain perfect silence in the classrooms and desist from loitering in the corridors or veranda in front of the classrooms and office rooms.
  • Student shall take proper care of college property, furniture,electronic devices,sports,musical instruments and the premises.
  • Student shall park their their bicycles, scooters,motor,cars,locked in the shed provided for the purpose.
  • No society can be formed in the college without the permission of the principal nor shall any person be invited to address ameeting in the college without the prior permission of the college authority.
  • The college do not encourage ragging & strictly prohibited.
  • Use of mobile phone inside the college campus is strictly prohibited.
  • Gotkha or any other other intoxicantsis strictly prohibited inside the college campus.

  • A special training programme on weaving has been conducted for interested girl students
  • The State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
