Department of Media Studies, Christ University, Bengaluru is a is the department of Christ University.
Christ University is Christian College established on 15th July 1969 by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and managed by Catholic congregation Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) which was established in 1831.
It is a "Deemed to be University" Christian College under Church of South India and widely regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges for Arts and Sciences in India, producing a line of distinguished alumni.
The department is self-affiliated with the Christ University, Bengaluru and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.25 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 2nd December 2016
The aim of the college is helping its members realize spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values also maintain its cosmopolitan and pluralistic tradition by enrolling young scholars from diverse communities and different social and economic backgrounds.
It is a co-educational self-financed Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006.
In 2008, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, declared the institution a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of CHRIST (Deemed to be University).
The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.
In 2017 India Today-Nielsen survey, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is ranked among the top private universities in India. The BBA and BCA programmes are rated among the best in India form 2012 to 2017.
In 2017, the Science programme was rated the best in India. Also, the university ranking moved up from 31st in 2012 to 8th in 2017. The department of Mass Communication has been received the rank 3rd best College in India for pure Sciences and Journalism by leading media houses.
The Department of Media Studies offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Master of Arts (M.A.) in Media and Communication Studies.
The college also offers three years undergraduate and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams with various specializations under the Christ University, Bengaluru. It also offers Ph.D. courses.
The multi-disciplinary University which focuses on teaching, research, and service, offers Bachelors to Doctoral programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Engineering, Education and Law to over 18000 students.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Christ University, Bengaluru, and various other examinations are held in the college premises. Applications are open for Choice Based Credit System for the first cum first courses.
