Dhanamanjuri College of Science, Imphal West was also known as D.M. College of Science, Imphal West was established on 6th August 1946 and founded by Late. Maharani Dhanamanjari Devi.

This is the only Cadre A -Science college in the State came into being in the year 1975 with the bifurcation of the parent Dhana Manjuri College of Science that continued to flourish and enjoy the national status, a rare and enviable honor achieve by a degree college in the northeast part of the country.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is at present affiliated with the Manipur University, Canchipur in 1981 and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.88 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th September 2011.

The D.M. College was for the first time affiliated with the University of Calcutta, Kolkata in 1946. In August 1949 this college was re-affiliated to Gauhati University, Gauhati and finally, with the bifurcation of the parent Dhana Manjari College that continued to flourish and enjoy the national status, a rare and enviable honor achieve by a degree college in the northeast part of the country, it was re-affiliated with Manipur University, Canchipur in 1981.

As the history goes by, the D.M. College was established after a protracted but a determined effort since about 1939-40 on the part of a group of local enthusiasts among them was Maharani Dhanamanjari Devi with vision and strong desire, love, and zeal for imparting higher and quality education in their own State

Later in 1975, the D.M. College was bifurcated into the D.M. College of Science and D.M. College of Arts and Commerce and also in 1996 the D.M. College of Arts and Commerce was again bifurcated into the D.M. College of Arts and D.M. College of Commerce.

The name of the college as Dhana Manjari College was rightly given after the Maharani in recognition of the valuable service rendered by her. In 1946 the college finally established and the college came under the management of the state in 1948.

It is a co-educational government institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Imphal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Science stream with various specializations under Manipur University, Canchipur.

The college also offers distance education mode courses with various specializations and which are affiliated with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.
