Dhanamanjuri College of Arts, Imphal West was also known as D.M. College of Arts, Imphal West was established on 6th August 1946 as Dhanamanjuri College and founded by Late Maharani Dhanamanjuri Devi.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the Manipur University, Canchipur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 7th October 1980 & 12(B) on 22nd July 1999 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.47 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 14th September 2015.
It is a co-educational government institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Imphal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
Dhanamanjuri College which was originally started with Arts stream only has a most illustrious saga of academic brilliance in the history of higher education in Manipur.
But later on, Science and Commerce facilities were also started in the college in 1951 and 1954 respectively. Further, in 1959, BT course was also introduced. However, the faculty of B.T. was soon separated to become a full-fledged Post-Graduate Training College in 1972 now renamed as D.M. College of Teachers Education.
By 1975 D.M. College became so large that it had to be bifurcated into D.M. College of Science and D.M. College of Arts and Commerce. D.M. College of Science had retained the original building because of immovable scientific installations such as laboratories, gas units etc. and D.M. College of Arts and Commerce had been shifted to the present site within the sprawling D.M.C. campus.
The growing size of the class and the need for a separate Commerce College led to a further bifurcation into D.M.
College of Arts and D.M. College of Commerce on August 6, 1996, the year D.M. College celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts stream with various specializations under Manipur University, Canchipur.
The college also offers distance education mode courses with various specializations which are affiliated with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.
